What Is Family Tree?
Five musicians. A stack of classic 60s and 70s rock and soul records. A rotating cast of guest players from across the Capital Region. No setlist — just improvisation, chemistry, and whatever the room calls for.
Family Tree is a live music residency at Putnam Place that’s been running for over four years. Every other Monday — then every Monday once track season brings the crowds to Saratoga — the core lineup brings decades of touring and session experience to a stage where anything can happen.
The Band
- ♪ Steve Candlen — Drums
- ♪ Kenny Hohman — Guitar/Bass (Super 400)
- ♪ Lori Friday — Bass/Guitar (Super 400)
- ♪ Chris Carey — Multi-instrumentalist
- ♪ Chad Ploss — Drums (The Audiostars)
Each night, the five are joined by guest musicians from across the regional scene — sometimes jazz players, sometimes blues, sometimes someone passing through town who heard about the Monday night thing at Putnam Place.
Why Monday?
Because the best music doesn’t need a weekend. Family Tree turns the slowest night of the week into the one musicians look forward to most. Free show, great sound, and a room full of people who actually came to listen.
